BIOL 04511 Techniques in Biotechnology

A studio course dedicated to hands-on experience with common techniques used in the field of biotechnology. Theory and practical experience will be provided for techniques in DNA isolation and manipulation, gene cloning, library screening, molecular detection, and protein expression, genomic analysis and bioinformatics. In addition, students will be exposed to current topics and ethical considerations in the biotechnology industry. Two three-hour studio sessions per week with additional independent laboratory work required. Prerequisite: BIOL 04350 with a minimum grade of C. Recommended prerequisite: BIOL 04140. (F, odd years)
