Special Education M.S.Ed.

A graduate degree is offered in Special Education with a focus on working with students with mild to moderate disabilities. These disabilities include students in multicategorical areas of learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, and physical and other health impaired. All required courses are offered as on-line courses. Check with the Special Education Coordinator for periodicity of the courses.

Competency Assessment

To assess program effectiveness and meet the comprehensive assessment requirement, a Written Assessment of Competency Mastery is required of all students completing the M.S.Ed., Special Education. The assessment will include reference to artifact/course content, standards, and reflection on growth as a teaching professional. The assessment will be completed during EDCI 62699 Seminar: Selected Topics in Special Education. 

Program Admission Requirements (current) 

1. Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or 2.50 to 2.74 GPA with a 3.0 GPA on six hours of required graduate program coursework AND

2. Required valid teaching certificate or two years prior teaching with a valid teaching certificate at the time of teaching or training or appropriate credentialing in specialized/related field.

Transfer courses and course substitution approval will be approved by advisor on a case-by-case basis. This program does not grant teacher certification.
