English Education Comprehensive Major, 57 hours: B.S.Ed.— No Minor Required
CIP: 131305
The English Education program prepares teacher candidates for meaningful careers in middle and high school classrooms. As an English education major at Northwest, candidates learn the skills to be successful teachers – curriculum, assessment, differentiated instruction, classroom management, professionalism, practical teaching methods, etc. – but they also learn how to teach their future students to be passionate and critical thinkers. Through language, English teachers instill in students a rich sense of the power of words. Through literature, English teachers introduce students to people and ideas they would never know otherwise, giving insight into the many diverse contexts that make up the countless chapters of our shared human story. And through writing, English teachers guide students to find their own voices, to express themselves and amplify their ideas through the written word to their world.
