2023-2024 Graduate Catalog

Master of Science in Nutrition

CIP: 513101

The curriculum is composed of courses to develop a knowledge base in the area of nutrition, focused on program, policy, trends, and applying research and data analysis in the profession. The courses and requirements in the program will allow students the opportunity to expand knowledge, skills, and competencies.

The program is designed with two (2) tracks of emphasis that students will choose from:

1.     Dietetics Internship Track. To enroll in this emphasis area, students must be previously admitted to the Northwest Dietetics Internship (DI) program. This emphasis area is designed for students with a nutrition and dietetics background seeking to sit for Registered Dietician Nutritionist exam. Enrollment in this track requires that students posses or are seeking an ACEND verification statement and will concurrently complete internship credit at approved sites as established by the Northwest Dietetics Internship program. Additional information about the Northwest DI program can be found at: https://www.nwmissouri.edu/health/programs/other/acend.htm

2.     General Nutrition Track. This track is designed for students seeking to further develop a general nutrition knowledge base. This emphasis area is designed for students who do not wish to become a Registered Dietician Nutritionist, but instead work in a setting where additional nutrition policy, programming, and leadership are beneficial. This track is designed for students with a general knowledge base in nutrition, health and exercise sciences, or health promotion and wellness. This track does not lead to an ACEND verification statement or the ability to sit for the RDN exam.
